Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of meeting with residents at the ARC A. Philip Randolph Senior Center in Harlem to talk about medical aid in dying. I was blown away by their stories and experiences. It was a special moment of knowledge sharing and empowerment.

51% of Americans don’t know if MAiD is legal
A recent Rutgers study published in JAMA Network Open highlights the knowledge gaps that exist about MAiD laws.
Learning about MAiD in Harlem
CLI hosted a MAiD presentation at the ARC A. Philip Randolph Senior Center of Harlem on March 12, 2025. Danurys “Didi” Sanchez and Annapurna Sinha spoke about MAiD and led an engaging Q&A session with a group of roughly 40 Black seniors. It was a fulfilling experience for all involved, and it inspired us at CLI to continue to educate and empower the general population about end-of-life options.
Isle of Man Assisted Dying Bill
On March 25, the Isle of Man Parliament passed its Assisted Dying Bill. This bill is the first of its kind to now be sent to the British monarchy for review. King Charles’ decision will be an indicator of whether he will approve the UK Parliament’s larger assisted dying bill later this year.
MAiD Opposition
The Compassionate Aid in Dying Act was introduced in Pennsylvania last Friday. The bill’s co-sponsor, Representative Tarik Khan, is a nurse practitioner and devout Muslim. Khan is being attacked by our opponents for both supporting MAiD and opposing the death penalty, which is a reminder that our opponents are still using the same bad faith arguments to undermine patient choice and control.
One Year Ago
Daniel Kahneman—Nobel Prize-winner, renowned psychologist, and author of Thinking, Fast and Slow—used MAiD to end his life in Switzerland in March 2024. As many considered him to be “the world’s leading authority on decision-making,” it would have been enlightening to learn his thoughts as he approached his resolution to use MAiD.
