Completed Life Poetry Corner - June 2022

Welcome to the June session of the Completed Life Poetry Corner (FKA: Poetry Lunch Hour). This month, we once again welcome back our host, Delano Copprue, PhD. Delano is a literary scholar and member of CLI’s esteemed advisory board. Over the course of his two decades of teaching, Delano has taught students of all ages, and he remains a proponent of the inherent value of lifelong learning. In this video, Delano will be reading a poem by Louise Glück, “The Denial of Death”, along with Emily Dickinson’s “Because I could not stop for Death”, and Sylvia Plath’s “Tulips”. Glück is the author of 12 books of poetry and was named the 12th US Poet Laureate in 2003. She is known for her poetry’s technical precision, sensitivity, and insight into loneliness, family relationships, divorce, and death. She won the Pulitzer Prize for her collection, The Wild Iris, in 1992 and in 2020 she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Welcome to the May session of the Completed Life Poetry Corner (FKA: Poetry Lunch Hour). In this session, we welcome back our host, Delano Copprue, PhD. Delano is a literary scholar and member of CLI’s esteemed advisory board. Over the course of his two decades of teaching, Delano has taught students of all ages, and he remains a proponent of the inherent value of lifelong learning. In this video, Delano reads a selection of poems by W.H. Auden. Auden was a British-American poet active in the mid-20th century. He was noted for his stylistic achievements and his focus on political and religious themes. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1947 for his long poem, “The Age of Anxiety.” Delano has selected poems from Auden that include musings on death and memory.

Completed Life Poetry Corner - Grand Opening, April 2022

Welcome to the Grand Opening of the Completed Life Poetry Corner (FKA: Poetry Lunch Hour). In this inaugural video, our esteemed advisory board member, Delano Copprue, PhD, leads a reading of poems from the work of National Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman. Gorman’s 2021 book “Call Us What We Carry” landed the first position on the New York Times Best Seller List and she read her poem “The Hill We Climb” at President Joe Biden’s 2021 Inauguration.
