We own and steward 24 acres of former farmland in southern Vermont where guests can go while they access medical aid in dying (MAID). Known as the Sanctuary, these first-class accommodations will offer a quiet, meditative environment for guests and their loved ones to stay.

Currently under construction, we anticipate opening our doors in late 2026.

Located in the forested hills of southern Vermont, the Sanctuary will offer peaceful lodgings to individuals and families seeking MAID. The Sanctuary exists both for Vermonters and for out-of-state visitors who want a welcoming, home-like place to spend their last moments. At the Sanctuary, individuals and families can step outside the pressures of illness and uncertainty to undertake deeply personal choices with clarity, compassion, and support.

While the Sanctuary itself does not provide medical care, it is part of a comprehensive ecosystem of end-of-life caregivers in Vermont, serving as a dedicated place for guests to stay while they access MAID. To ensure integrated care, eligible guests must be referred to the Sanctuary through a licensed MAID provider in Vermont.

The reality of how difficult it can be for individuals and families to find accommodations when seeking MAID in Vermont inspired us to open the Sanctuary. Our goal is to ensure that financial and logistical barriers do not prevent anyone from accessing the end-of-life care they choose.
